Happy birthday to us! SBX turns three, and once again, I’m asking you to Drive For Charity. On November 19, we’ll donate $1.00 for every trip taken on SBX to our schools and great community causes. With almost 45,000 SBX FasTrak® transponders out there, just think of what a difference we can make in our community if we all take just one trip that day. Let’s do it!
On a more serious note, I’m now tweeting regularly. You can follow me at @greghulsizer on Twitter. The serious part is that I regularly tweet reminders for all of us to remember to drive safely. Too many of us, myself included, try to do too many things while driving. We call it multitasking. It’s really just plain dangerous. So let me suggest there is one thing we can all commit to, to make our commutes safe—don’t text while driving. None of us would ever think about driving after drinking, right? Statistics show that texting while driving raises the probability of an accident to about the same level as drinking and driving. Please remember―no text message is worth dying for. To encourage you to take this seriously, the first 50 customers who e-mail me at ceo@sbexpress.com with your pledge not to text and drive will receive $25 in free toll credits for use on SBX. Please remember to send your pledge from the e-mail address that we have on your SBX FasTrak account so we can apply the credit. Thank you for driving safely around San Diego. Have a great fall and holiday season, and I’ll see you on the road!

Help us nominate Community Hero organizations to receive funds from our 3rd Annual Drive for Charity!
|
|
We’re turning three on November 19! Each year on our birthday, we hold our Drive for Charity. To support our community, we donate $1 for every trip taken on SBX that day to great community causes. In the past two years, we’ve contributed almost $60,000 to organizations like the South Bay Family YMCA, Endow Chula Vista, Chula Vista Nature Center, San Diego Food Bank, South Bay Community Services, various youth and sports organizations and for college scholarships.
This year, we will again offer a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from each of our area high schools. If you have a graduating senior, have them check with their guidance office regarding how to apply for the SBX scholarship at their school.
Now for the fun part! We’re asking our customers to help us choose the community organizations that will receive support this year. As part of our Drive for Charity, we will select four organizations and give them each $5,000 to support their work in the community. You can help by nominating your favorite “Community Hero” organization. It could be your service club, youth sports activity, church group, neighborhood volunteer group—any community service group or cause that you either participate in or have benefitted from. You can nominate your favorite community organization by completing a short nomination form. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. on November 10, 2010. We will select the winning organizations on November 15 and award them with their $5,000 grant at a special ceremony on November 19.
What’s in it for you? If we pick your nomination, you’ll get to personally present the $5,000 check to your “Hero” on November 19 and we’ll give you $500 in free gas as our way of saying "thanks."
Any additional proceeds raised that day will be given to Homefront San Diego to help military families in San Diego.
Thanks for your help. As we like to say, “It’s our birthday, but we love to give away all the presents!”

Did you know that we use recycled water to irrigate and maintain our landscaping? We do! Recycled water is an environmentally friendly long-term supply of water that helps our region offset its demand for imported water. We pride ourselves on helping in the effort to conserve water here in San Diego—one of our most valuable resources.
