Spring 2010
Note From Greg Note From Greg

On the day of my graduation from SDSU, my parents gave me a picture with a quote from former U.N. Secretary General Dag Hammarskjöld:

"How long the road is. But, for all the time the journey has already taken, how you have needed every second of it in order to learn what the road passes by."

I look at that picture often. It reminds me that life is all about learning and growing. It encourages me to look around and take in the scenery, not just focus on the destination. It motivates me when times are difficult to find a way to thrive, not just survive.

2009 is now in the rearview mirror, and 2010 lies ahead of us. As you dealt with all the challenges that 2009 sent your way, I hope South Bay ExpresswaySM helped make your life a little bit easier and less stressful. And it's also our goal and promise for 2010:  a stress-free, reliable commute that saves you time so that you can do the things that make you happy and fulfilled. I look forward to seeing you along the way and sharing how we are making good things happen in and around San Diego.

Thanks so much for making our Drive for Charity such a success. It feels good to give back to the community on behalf of our customers. And thanks again for being a South Bay Expressway customer.

Sweetwater Summit Park Improvements

Sweetwater Park Gets Face-Lift

Even though "Drive for Charity" is over, giving back is still in our plans for 2010. We recently broke ground on some fantastic improvements to Sweetwater Summit Park in Bonita. By the end of 2010, visitors to the park will see:
  • A new 4,000-square-foot community/recreation building
  • A wet playground to play for hot summer days
  • Two new tot-lot playgrounds
  • New and improved parking and restroom facilities
  • A 13-station exercise course
  • A new 60-foot picnic pavilion and four new 16-foot picnic pavilions
  • Construction of seven new state-of-the-art RV campsites to make a total of 56 – with full hook-ups too!
County Supervisor Greg Cox said of the improvements, "We appreciate our partnership with South Bay Expressway and their commitment to improving the quality of life for South County residents and visitors. These park improvements will make what is already a fantastic community facility even better."

The $4-million project is funded by SBX and will be built by Hazard Construction Company, a local construction company. The improvements are part of our commitment to the South Bay Community. Now that’s what we call a face-lift! Click here to check out our improvement plans!

Thanks for another successful Drive for Charity! 2nd Drive for Charity A Success

Your driving did more than just get you where you needed to go on November 19 – it benefited local charities too! Thanks to everyone – all 26,731 of you – who drove South Bay Expressway on our 2nd Birthday. Your support is appreciated!

With your help, we were able to make a big difference for so many. When we say so many, we mean:
  • 12,000 diapers for South Bay Community Services
  • 85 folding chairs for the South Bay YMCA
  • 5,000 educational workbooks for the Chula Vista Nature Center
  • 4,500 meals for hungry San Diegans
  • A new golf cart for Eastlake High School Band
  • Sponsoring the San Diego Academic Decathlon
  • Providing tools and parts for Hi-Tech High’s “Project Z” electric car
  • Financially supporting Eastlake Little League so that no child is turned away from playing
  • $1,000 scholarships for each of the local high schools with graduating seniors
  • SBX customers gave more than 30 pints of blood for the San Diego Blood Bank at our first Birthday Blood Drive!
That’s a BIG difference in a GREAT community – we weren’t kidding! Together, we’re changing people’s lives. Take a closer look at how your trips supported local charities, and check out some photos here!

FasTrak Transponder Let's Communicate

FasTrak is the hassle-free way to pay your tolls – you know that already! Just like your electronic banking, or any other kind of account, it’s important that we always have the most updated information for your FasTrak account so that we can serve you even better! Here's some tips to keep the line of communication open.
  • Please, pretty please – open the e-mails that you receive from us! Oftentimes we are letting you know that your credit/debit card will expire or that there is an issue with your account. Oh, and don’t forget to add customerservice@southbayexpressway.com and newsletter@sbexpress.com to your “Safe Senders” list so you’ll be sure to get every e-mail we send you.
  • Opt for e-mail statements. Not only will it help save trees, but you’ll save money too – $2.00 per statement to your account. Just go to southbayexpressway.com, provide us with your e-mail address and select the option to receive e-mail statements for your account. You can then print the same information found on a statement 24/7 by logging into your FasTrak account.
  • Update your credit/debit card information as soon as possible when you receive a new credit/debit card if your current one becomes lost or stolen.
  • Keep your account information up-to-date. If you move or change your e-mail address, we want to know. Remember, for most customers, the e-mail address you provide is our primary means of contacting you. So if anything changes, just update online by logging into your FasTrak account.
  • If you receive a letter or e-mail you don’t understand, see a problem on your statement, are experiencing problems with your transponders or have any other issues, please call or e-mail us right away. The sooner we know, the sooner we can help!
