GET ON THE FASTRAK™ AND WIN "1 YEAR OF FREE TOLLS"
South Bay Expressway Breaks Ground on State-of-the-Art Otay Mesa Customer Service Center - Launches FasTrak™ Sign-up
(SAN DIEGO -- October 6, 2005) - Today, South Bay Expressway (a 10-mile express toll road that will extend from SR 54 in Spring Valley, through eastern Chula Vista, to SR 905 in Otay Mesa near the International Border) celebrated a significant milestone - the groundbreaking of its Customer Service Center in Otay Mesa, which will serve as the hub for the Expressway's operations.
The event also served as the official kickoff of FasTrak™ sign-up -- a cutting-edge electronic toll-collection system that allows customers to bypass toll plazas at full highway speeds - no stopping necessary.
"We're thrilled to celebrate the groundbreaking of our customer service center - the hub of operations for South Bay Expressway," said Greg Hulsizer, CEO of South Bay Expressway.
"Our goal is to help you put the fun back into driving! We'll do this by providing first class customer service, so you can enjoy a fast, reliable, scenic drive, every time you use South Bay Expressway."
Hulsizer also announced that those who sign up for FasTrak™ online at southbayexpressway.com by December 31, 2005 will be automatically entered in a drawing to win one year's worth of free tolls on South Bay Expressway.
The highlight of the ceremony was the keynote speech by Caltrans Director Will Kempton who flew in from Sacramento to address the significance of the public/private partnership responsible for South Bay Expressway.
Otay Mesa Planning Group Member and South Bay Expressway Citizens Advisory Committee Chairman Rob Hixson addressed the Expressway's benefits to local businesses.
"By improving regional mobility in the South Bay, and providing increased access for residents and businesses to the employment centers on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border, South Bay Expressway will help strengthen the local economy," said Hixson.
Today's ceremony drew more than 100 attendees, including community leaders, elected officials and representatives from local, state and federal government.
The 22,000 square-foot Customer Service Center is located in Otay Mesa near the intersection of SR 905 East and La Media. It will house approximately 55 employees responsible for Toll Operations, Customer Call Center, Front Counter Sales & Service, Violations Processing, Accounting, Roadway Operations, Marketing and Transponder Distribution.
Guests were also treated to a performance by the Bonita Vista High School "Music Machine" and received a tour of the tunnel that travels underneath the Expressway and provides safe passage for employees between the Customer Service Center and the toll plaza.
